Canada stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.44%

Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the IT , Consumer Staples and Industrials sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.44%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Innergex Renewable Energy Inc . (TSX: INE ), which rose 10.65% or 0.82 points to trade at 8.52 at the close. Meanwhile, Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX: BHC ) added 9.46% or 0.88 points to end at 10.18 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX: AG ) was up 7.21% or 0.55 points to 8.18 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were TFI International Inc (TSX: TFII ), which fell 20.79% or 37.73 points to trade at 143.78 at the close. OceanaGold Corporation (TSX: OGC ) declined 5.69% or 0.25 points to end at 4.14 and Celestica Inc. (TSX: CLS ) was down 5.41% or 10.14 points to 177.17.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 459 to 439 and 118 ended unchanged.

Shares in TFI International Inc (TSX: TFII ) fell to 52-week lows; losing 20.79% or 37.73 to 143.78.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.63% to 14.44.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.66% or 19.29 to $2,955.39 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.55% or 0.40 to hit $72.50 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.60% or 0.46 to trade at $76.50 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.46% to 0.71, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.31% to 0.67.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.77% at 106.24.
