Canada stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.21%
Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Clean Technology , Consumer Staples and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.21%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Innergex Renewable Energy Inc . (TSX: INE ), which rose 54.76% or 4.77 points to trade at 13.48 at the close. Meanwhile, Maple Leaf Foods Inc . (TSX: MFI ) added 10.58% or 2.35 points to end at 24.57 and Stantec Inc (TSX: STN ) was up 10.02% or 10.92 points to 119.93 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Spin Master Corp (TSX: TOY ), which fell 10.45% or 3.27 points to trade at 28.02 at the close. BlackBerry Ltd (TSX: BB ) declined 8.37% or 0.64 points to end at 7.01 and Baytex Energy Corp (TSX: BTE ) was down 5.92% or 0.20 points to 3.18.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 571 to 345 and 86 ended unchanged.
Shares in Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. (TSX: INE ) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 54.76% or 4.77 to 13.48. Shares in Baytex Energy Corp (TSX: BTE ) fell to 3-years lows; down 5.92% or 0.20 to 3.18.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 5.07% to 14.08.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.13% or 33.39 to $2,929.81 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 2.26% or 1.60 to hit $69.10 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 2.25% or 1.67 to trade at $72.64 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.34% to 0.70, while CAD/EUR fell 0.80% to 0.66.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.31% at 106.18.
