Canada stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.79%
Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Materials , REITs and IT sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.79% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Superior Plus Corp (TSX: SPB ), which rose 11.47% or 0.68 points to trade at 6.61 at the close. Meanwhile, Veren Inc (TSX: VRN ) added 9.39% or 0.65 points to end at 7.57 and Kinaxis Inc (TSX: KXS ) was up 5.19% or 7.93 points to 160.59 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX: EFR ), which fell 8.98% or 0.57 points to trade at 5.78 at the close. Aya Gold & Silver Inc (TSX: AYA ) declined 7.32% or 0.93 points to end at 11.77 and B2Gold Corp (TSX: BTO ) was down 6.10% or 0.25 points to 3.85.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 566 to 360 and 97 ended unchanged.
Shares in Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX: EFR ) fell to 3-years lows; losing 8.98% or 0.57 to 5.78.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 9.41% to 14.77.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.50% or 44.05 to $2,886.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 2.13% or 1.46 to hit $70.08 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.71% or 1.23 to trade at $73.30 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.72% to 0.69, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.09% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.84% at 107.22.
