Canada stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 1.54%
Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare , Energy and Telecoms sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 1.54% to hit a new 6-months low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Kinaxis Inc (TSX: KXS ), which rose 3.08% or 4.79 points to trade at 160.54 at the close. Meanwhile, IAMGold Corporation (TSX: IMG ) added 2.35% or 0.19 points to end at 8.26 and K92 Mining Inc (TSX: KNT ) was up 2.14% or 0.24 points to 11.43 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tilray Inc (TSX: TLRY ), which fell 20.99% or 0.17 points to trade at 0.64 at the close. NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX: NG ) declined 11.72% or 0.43 points to end at 3.24 and Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX: VET ) was down 10.75% or 0.93 points to 7.72.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 681 to 285 and 64 ended unchanged.
Shares in Tilray Inc (TSX: TLRY ) fell to all time lows; down 20.99% or 0.17 to 0.64. Shares in NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX: NG ) fell to 52-week lows; losing 11.72% or 0.43 to 3.24. Shares in Vermilion Energy Inc. (TSX: VET ) fell to 3-years lows; losing 10.75% or 0.93 to 7.72.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.44% to 25.56 a new 52-week high.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.70% or 20.74 to $2,994.34 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 3.77% or 2.29 to hit $58.41 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 3.83% or 2.46 to trade at $61.75 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.10% to 0.70, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.19% to 0.64.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 102.83.
