India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 1.15%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas , Power and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 1.15% to hit a new 3-months high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.09%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NSE: TEML ), which rose 5.13% or 67.10 points to trade at 1,373.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Trent Ltd (NSE: TREN ) added 4.32% or 221.50 points to end at 5,352.00 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NSE: INBK ) was up 4.00% or 31.75 points to 826.45 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NSE: APSE ), which fell 1.27% or 16.00 points to trade at 1,243.40 at the close. HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NSE: HDFL ) declined 1.12% or 8.05 points to end at 712.00 and Britannia Industries Ltd (NSE: BRIT ) was down 1.11% or 60.60 points to 5,394.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO: TEML ) which rose 4.91% to 1,370.00, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO: INBK ) which was up 4.05% to settle at 826.60 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO: PGRD ) which gained 3.63% to close at 320.00.

The worst performers were Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (BO: APSE ) which was down 1.27% to 1,243.90 in late trade, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO: HLL ) which lost 1.04% to settle at 2,350.00 and ITC Ltd (BO: ITC ) which was down 1.01% to 422.95 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1846 to 566 and 41 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2783 rose and 1140 declined, while 157 ended unchanged.

The India VIX , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.13% to 15.45.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 2.37% or 78.81 to $3,407.21 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 2.61% or 1.67 to hit $62.34 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 2.46% or 1.67 to trade at $66.29 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.35% to 85.13, while EUR/INR fell 0.21% to 97.11.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.18% at 97.96.
