Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Financials , Consumer Services and Utilities sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 2.66%, while the S&P 500 index added 2.51%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 2.71%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were 3M Company (NYSE: MMM ), which rose 8.12% or 10.24 points to trade at 136.33 at the close. Meanwhile, Travelers Companies (NYSE: TRV ) added 4.70% or 11.72 points to end at 261.31 and American Express Company (NYSE: AXP ) was up 4.09% or 9.91 points to 252.42 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Unitedhealth Group (NYSE: UNH ), which rose 0.43% or 1.85 points to trade at 427.18 at the close. Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ ) added 0.49% or 0.77 points to end at 157.69 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE: VZ ) was up 0.59% or 0.26 points to 43.19.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Equifax Inc (NYSE: EFX ) which rose 13.88% to 245.18, First Solar Inc (NASDAQ: FSLR ) which was up 10.55% to settle at 135.37 and Pentair PLC (NYSE: PNR ) which gained 9.22% to close at 86.24.

The worst performers were Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC ) which was down 12.66% to 464.08 in late trade, Rtx Corp (NYSE: RTX ) which lost 9.82% to settle at 113.74 and Halliburton Company (NYSE: HAL ) which was down 5.57% to 20.70 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Gelteq Ltd (NASDAQ: GELS ) which rose 211.25% to 2.88, China SXT Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ: SXTC ) which was up 103.92% to settle at 2.08 and Tivic Health Systems Inc (NASDAQ: TIVC ) which gained 103.71% to close at 7.13.

The worst performers were Thunder Power Holdings Inc (OTC: AIEV ) which was down 70.53% to 0.01 in late trade, Jayud Global Logistics Ltd (NASDAQ: JYD ) which lost 48.68% to settle at 0.10 and Ohmyhome Ltd (NASDAQ: OMH ) which was down 39.44% to 2.18 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2489 to 307 and 51 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2708 rose and 601 declined, while 109 ended unchanged.

Shares in Thunder Power Holdings Inc (OTC: AIEV ) fell to all time lows; falling 70.53% or 0.03 to 0.01. Shares in Jayud Global Logistics Ltd (NASDAQ: JYD ) fell to all time lows; falling 48.68% or 0.10 to 0.10.

The CBOE Volatility Index , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 9.64% to 30.56.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.93% or 31.71 to $3,393.59 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.75% or 1.09 to hit $63.50 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.55% or 1.03 to trade at $67.29 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.81% to 1.14, while USD/JPY rose 0.51% to 141.57.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.70% at 98.74.
