Canada stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 1.24%
Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare , Consumer Discretionary and IT sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 1.24%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX: NG ), which rose 39.21% or 1.69 points to trade at 6.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX: BHC ) added 10.29% or 0.67 points to end at 7.18 and Brookfield Business Partners LP (TSX: BBU_u ) was up 5.97% or 1.64 points to 29.13 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Aya Gold & Silver Inc (TSX: AYA ), which fell 8.10% or 0.90 points to trade at 10.21 at the close. G Mining Ventures Corp (TSX: GMIN ) declined 5.69% or 1.20 points to end at 19.89 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX: AG ) was down 5.61% or 0.50 points to 8.42.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 604 to 285 and 95 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 10.15% to 26.83.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.93% or 31.86 to $3,393.44 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.76% or 1.10 to hit $63.51 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.57% or 1.04 to trade at $67.30 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.24% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR rose 1.00% to 0.63.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.70% at 98.74.
