Canada stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.07%

Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Industrials , Materials and Telecoms sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.07%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Boralex Inc (TSX: BLX ), which rose 3.22% or 0.98 points to trade at 31.41 at the close. Meanwhile, Spin Master Corp (TSX: TOY ) added 3.12% or 0.73 points to end at 24.14 and TransAlta Corp (TSX: TA ) was up 2.38% or 0.29 points to 12.47 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX: NG ), which fell 10.74% or 0.74 points to trade at 6.15 at the close. Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX: EFR ) declined 6.00% or 0.40 points to end at 6.27 and TFI International Inc (TSX: TFII ) was down 5.52% or 6.46 points to 110.48.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 476 to 419 and 102 ended unchanged.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.98% to 22.68.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.83% or 27.94 to $3,320.66 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.75% or 0.47 to hit $63.26 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.77% or 0.51 to trade at $67.06 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.03% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.26% to 0.64.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 99.40.
