Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Telecoms , Healthcare and Industrials sectors led shares higher while losses in the Oil & Gas , Consumer Goods and Utilities sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.35%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.15%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.09%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE: VZ ), which rose 2.58% or 1.11 points to trade at 44.06 at the close. Meanwhile, McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE: MCD ) added 1.62% or 5.10 points to end at 319.60 and Sherwin-Williams Co (NYSE: SHW ) was up 1.38% or 4.79 points to 352.92 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Chevron Corp (NYSE: CVX ), which fell 2.36% or 3.29 points to trade at 136.01 at the close. Nike Inc (NYSE: NKE ) declined 1.98% or 1.14 points to end at 56.40 and Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ: AMZN ) was down 1.65% or 3.10 points to 184.29.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Qorvo Inc (NASDAQ: QRVO ) which rose 14.38% to 71.66, Seagate Technology PLC (NASDAQ: STX ) which was up 11.56% to settle at 91.03 and Trane Technologies plc (NYSE: TT ) which gained 8.45% to close at 383.31.

The worst performers were Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ: SMCI ) which was down 11.50% to 31.86 in late trade, CoStar Group Inc (NASDAQ: CSGP ) which lost 10.31% to settle at 74.17 and Edison International (NYSE: EIX ) which was down 8.89% to 53.51 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Regulus Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: RGLS ) which rose 136.80% to 7.98, Nvni Group Ltd (NASDAQ: NVNI ) which was up 111.22% to settle at 0.45 and Regencell Bioscience Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ: RGC ) which gained 89.87% to close at 60.00.

The worst performers were E-Home Household Service Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ: EJH ) which was down 45.51% to 0.43 in late trade, GeneDx Holdings Corp (NASDAQ: WGS ) which lost 42.85% to settle at 66.85 and Sound Group Inc (NASDAQ: SOGP ) which was down 29.46% to 1.53 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1546 to 1225 and 83 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1830 fell and 1432 advanced, while 164 ended unchanged.

Shares in Regulus Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: RGLS ) rose to 3-years highs; up 136.80% or 4.61 to 7.98. Shares in E-Home Household Service Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ: EJH ) fell to all time lows; falling 45.51% or 0.36 to 0.43. Shares in Regencell Bioscience Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ: RGC ) rose to all time highs; rising 89.87% or 28.40 to 60.00. Shares in Sound Group Inc (NASDAQ: SOGP ) fell to all time lows; down 29.46% or 0.64 to 1.53.

The CBOE Volatility Index , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 2.61% to 24.80.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.04% or 34.51 to $3,299.09 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 3.64% or 2.20 to hit $58.22 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 3.48% or 2.20 to trade at $61.08 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.54% to 1.13, while USD/JPY rose 0.63% to 143.17.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.46% at 99.48.
