The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON: ICAG ), which rose 5.01% or 13.30 points to trade at 279.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Melrose Industries PLC (LON: MRON ) added 4.88% or 21.20 points to end at 455.90 and Rentokil Initial PLC (LON: RTO ) was up 3.60% or 12.50 points to 359.40 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Smurfit WestRock PLC (LON: SWR ), which fell 1.95% or 61.00 points to trade at 3,073.00 at the close. J Sainsbury PLC (LON: SBRY ) declined 1.72% or 4.60 points to end at 263.40 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON: UU ) was down 1.50% or 17.00 points to 1,115.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1218 to 518 and 610 ended unchanged.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.44% or 14.06 to $3,236.26 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.81% or 1.07 to hit $58.17 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.51% or 0.94 to trade at $61.19 a barrel.

GBP/USD was unchanged 0.02% to 1.33, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.32% to 0.85.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.46% at 99.60.
