Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology , Consumer Services and Industrials sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 2.81% to hit a new 1-month high, while the S&P 500 index gained 3.26%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 4.35%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ: AMZN ), which rose 8.09% or 15.61 points to trade at 208.67 at the close. Meanwhile, Nike Inc (NYSE: NKE ) added 7.34% or 4.28 points to end at 62.58 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL ) was up 6.31% or 12.51 points to 210.78 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE: VZ ), which fell 1.40% or 0.61 points to trade at 43.00 at the close. Coca-Cola Co (NYSE: KO ) declined 1.39% or 0.98 points to end at 69.54 and Travelers Companies (NYSE: TRV ) was down 0.63% or 1.69 points to 268.06.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were NRG Energy Inc (NYSE: NRG ) which rose 26.21% to 150.61, Stanley Black & Decker Inc (NYSE: SWK ) which was up 15.77% to settle at 72.55 and Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: ZBRA ) which gained 12.52% to close at 300.11.

The worst performers were Newmont Goldcorp Corp (NYSE: NEM ) which was down 5.93% to 50.78 in late trade, American Water Works (NYSE: AWK ) which lost 5.65% to settle at 138.64 and MarketAxess Holdings Inc (NASDAQ: MKTX ) which was down 5.63% to 218.09 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were DevvStream Corp (NASDAQ: DEVS ) which rose 290.93% to 1.31, Kindly MD Inc (NASDAQ: KDLY ) which was up 246.67% to settle at 13.52 and Gryphon Digital Mining Inc (NASDAQ: GRYP ) which gained 171.29% to close at 1.41.

The worst performers were Inno Holdings Inc (NASDAQ: INHD ) which was down 56.30% to 2.36 in late trade, Abits Group Inc (NASDAQ: ABTS ) which lost 54.93% to settle at 3.79 and Nuvve Holding Corp (NASDAQ: NVVE ) which was down 43.17% to 1.58 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2102 to 692 and 58 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2525 rose and 805 declined, while 104 ended unchanged.

Shares in NRG Energy Inc (NYSE: NRG ) rose to all time highs; up 26.21% or 31.28 to 150.61. Shares in Inno Holdings Inc (NASDAQ: INHD ) fell to all time lows; down 56.30% or 3.04 to 2.36. Shares in Kindly MD Inc (NASDAQ: KDLY ) rose to all time highs; up 246.67% or 9.62 to 13.52.

The CBOE Volatility Index , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 15.98% to 18.40 a new 1-month low.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 3.08% or 103.06 to $3,240.94 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.72% or 1.05 to hit $62.07 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.78% or 1.14 to trade at $65.05 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 1.37% to 1.11, while USD/JPY rose 2.10% to 148.41.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.41% at 101.58.
