Canada stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.33%

Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy , IT and Industrials sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.33% to hit a new 1-month high.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Finning International Inc . (TSX: FTT ), which rose 13.78% or 5.85 points to trade at 48.31 at the close. Meanwhile, Aya Gold & Silver Inc (TSX: AYA ) added 12.06% or 1.21 points to end at 11.24 and Celestica Inc. (TSX: CLS ) was up 9.12% or 12.80 points to 153.13 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Orla Mining Ltd (TSX: OLA ), which fell 6.04% or 0.79 points to trade at 12.28 at the close. Pet Valu Holdings Ltd (TSX: PET ) declined 4.50% or 1.36 points to end at 28.86 and Constellation Software Inc . (TSX: CSU ) was down 3.77% or 193.55 points to 4,936.46.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 601 to 325 and 66 ended unchanged.

Shares in Finning International Inc. (TSX: FTT ) rose to all time highs; gaining 13.78% or 5.85 to 48.31.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.66% to 13.44 a new 1-month low.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.95% or 30.55 to $3,258.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.71% or 1.68 to hit $63.63 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 2.42% or 1.57 to trade at $66.53 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.31% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.66% to 0.64.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.84% at 100.74.
