Canada stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.30%
Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrials , IT and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.30% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Finning International Inc . (TSX: FTT ), which rose 6.62% or 3.20 points to trade at 51.51 at the close. Meanwhile, Canadian Pacific Kansas City Limited (TSX: CP ) added 3.82% or 4.18 points to end at 113.64 and Shopify Inc (TSX: SHOP ) was up 3.81% or 5.72 points to 155.83 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Aya Gold & Silver Inc (TSX: AYA ), which fell 7.30% or 0.82 points to trade at 10.42 at the close. Baytex Energy Corp (TSX: BTE ) declined 5.58% or 0.15 points to end at 2.54 and CAE Inc. (TSX: CAE ) was down 5.00% or 1.81 points to 34.36.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 560 to 355 and 73 ended unchanged.
Shares in Finning International Inc. (TSX: FTT ) rose to all time highs; gaining 6.62% or 3.20 to 51.51.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.46% to 14.04.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.91% or 62.11 to $3,185.69 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.19% or 0.76 to hit $62.91 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.20% or 0.80 to trade at $65.83 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.29% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.19% to 0.64.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 100.91.
