Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.74%

Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Paper & Pulp , Transport and Communication sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.74%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (TYO: 4568 ), which rose 7.06% or 244.00 points to trade at 3,698.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Konica Minolta, Inc. (TYO: 4902 ) added 6.31% or 27.80 points to end at 468.70 and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (TYO: 7011 ) was up 3.04% or 86.00 points to 2,916.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Lasertec Corp (TYO: 6920 ), which fell 5.16% or 765.00 points to trade at 14,055.00 at the close. Keisei Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (TYO: 9009 ) declined 4.54% or 76.00 points to end at 1,598.50 and Oriental Land Co Ltd (TYO: 4661 ) was down 4.34% or 147.00 points to 3,240.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1992 to 1646 and 215 ended unchanged.

Shares in Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (TYO: 7011 ) rose to all time highs; up 3.04% or 86.00 to 2,916.00.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.97% to 22.94.

Crude oil for July delivery was down 0.89% or 0.55 to $61.42 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in July fell 0.86% or 0.56 to hit $64.85 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 1.31% or 41.89 to trade at $3,229.19 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.45% to 144.98, while EUR/JPY fell 0.04% to 162.51.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.46% at 100.49.
