Investing.com-- Shares of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (HK: 3750 ) (CATL), the world’s largest electric vehicle battery maker and a key supplier to Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA ), jumped nearly 17% in their Hong Kong debut on Tuesday.

CATL priced its shares at HK$263 each, with trading opening at HK$294 and peaking at HK$307.60 during the session.

The offering raised approximately $4.6 billion, with proceeds earmarked for international expansion, including a major battery plant in Hungary.

The listing attracted strong investor interest, with strong retail subscriptions and institutional demand, despite the company’s inclusion on a U.S. Department of Defense list of “Chinese military companies”, a designation CATL disputes.

Already listed in Shenzhen, CATL pursued the Hong Kong dual listing to access offshore capital and broaden its global investor base.
