Apple CEO Cook met Trump at the White House on Tuesday- Politico
Investing.com-- Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL ) CEO Tim Cook met President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday, Politico reported, citing a person familiar with the matter.
But the purpose of Cook’s visit was not immediately clear.
Still, news of the meeting comes just days after Trump rebuked Apple’s plans to shift iPhone production from China to India, and instead asked Cook to shift more production to the United States.
Apple had earlier this year pledged to invest $500 billion over the next four years to increase its manufacturing and artificial intelligence capabilities in the United States.
The company is facing severe headwinds from high U.S. trade tariffs on China, which stand to severely increase the prices of its devices. Over 90% of Apple’s flagship iPhones are manufactured in China, while the country is also Apple’s largest market outside North America.
A recent report showed the Trump administration was also scrutinizing Apple’s partnership with China’s Alibaba (NYSE: BABA ) to incorporate AI features into iPhone models sold in China.
