India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.82%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil & Gas , Consumer Durables and Auto sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.82%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.79%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NSE: INBK ), which rose 1.81% or 13.90 points to trade at 783.85 at the close. Meanwhile, JSW Steel Ltd (NSE: JSTL ) added 0.71% or 7.10 points to end at 1,008.00 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (NSE: BAJA ) was up 0.62% or 53.50 points to 8,741.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NSE: ONGC ), which fell 2.65% or 6.58 points to trade at 242.10 at the close. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NSE: MAHM ) declined 2.41% or 74.60 points to end at 3,016.10 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NSE: HALC ) was down 2.03% or 13.45 points to 649.55.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO: INBK ) which rose 1.73% to 784.45, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO: BRTI ) which was up 0.44% to settle at 1,830.35 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO: ULTC ) which gained 0.10% to close at 11,671.00.

The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO: MAHM ) which was down 2.27% to 3,017.70 in late trade, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO: TEML ) which lost 1.77% to settle at 1,569.85 and ITC Ltd (BO: ITC ) which was down 1.72% to 425.50 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1312 to 1047 and 49 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2028 fell and 1731 advanced, while 161 ended unchanged.

The India VIX , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.99% to 17.20.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.54% or 17.81 to $3,295.69 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.61% or 0.99 to hit $60.58 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.60% or 1.04 to trade at $63.87 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.40% to 85.93, while EUR/INR fell 0.03% to 97.13.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.30% at 99.74.
