Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Consumer Goods , Technology and Consumer Services sectors led shares higher while losses in the Utilities , Telecoms and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.00%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.04%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.28%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Nike Inc (NYSE: NKE ), which rose 2.18% or 1.31 points to trade at 61.29 at the close. Meanwhile, Merck & Company Inc (NYSE: MRK ) added 1.12% or 0.86 points to end at 77.84 and Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ: AMZN ) was up 0.99% or 2.00 points to 203.12 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Unitedhealth Group (NYSE: UNH ), which fell 2.08% or 6.31 points to trade at 296.67 at the close. Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE: VZ ) declined 1.42% or 0.62 points to end at 43.13 and Home Depot Inc (NYSE: HD ) was down 1.27% or 4.71 points to 366.13.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Seagate Technology PLC (NASDAQ: STX ) which rose 4.24% to 108.86, United Airlines Holdings Inc (NASDAQ: UAL ) which was up 3.64% to settle at 76.00 and Moderna Inc (NASDAQ: MRNA ) which gained 3.57% to close at 26.72.

The worst performers were Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ: ENPH ) which was down 19.63% to 38.01 in late trade, Humana Inc (NYSE: HUM ) which lost 7.58% to settle at 227.14 and Nextera Energy Inc (NYSE: NEE ) which was down 6.43% to 66.94 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Vigil Neuroscience Inc (NASDAQ: VIGL ) which rose 241.13% to 7.88, Navitas Semiconductor Corp (NASDAQ: NVTS ) which was up 163.61% to settle at 5.03 and Asset Entities Inc (NASDAQ: ASST ) which gained 61.19% to close at 12.96.

The worst performers were UniFuels Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ: UFG ) which was down 47.18% to 2.06 in late trade, NetClass Technology Inc (NASDAQ: NTCL ) which lost 41.13% to settle at 5.21 and Sunrun Inc (NASDAQ: RUN ) which was down 37.10% to 6.71 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1486 to 1230 and 124 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1676 fell and 1618 advanced, while 132 ended unchanged.

Shares in Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ: ENPH ) fell to 5-year lows; falling 19.63% or 9.29 to 38.01. Shares in Humana Inc (NYSE: HUM ) fell to 5-year lows; losing 7.58% or 18.63 to 227.14. Shares in Vigil Neuroscience Inc (NASDAQ: VIGL ) rose to 52-week highs; up 241.13% or 5.57 to 7.88. Shares in UniFuels Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ: UFG ) fell to all time lows; down 47.18% or 1.84 to 2.06. Shares in Navitas Semiconductor Corp (NASDAQ: NVTS ) rose to 52-week highs; rising 163.61% or 3.13 to 5.03. Shares in Asset Entities Inc (NASDAQ: ASST ) rose to 52-week highs; rising 61.19% or 4.92 to 12.96.

The CBOE Volatility Index , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.87% to 20.27.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.59% or 19.44 to $3,294.06 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.30% or 0.80 to hit $60.77 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.36% or 0.88 to trade at $64.03 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.42% to 1.13, while USD/JPY rose 0.16% to 143.92.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.37% at 99.81.
